About Australia & Sydney

Australia is the largest country in Oceania and sixth-largest country by total area in the world. Australia has six states and two major mainland territories.

The currency of Australia is Australian Dollar (AUD).

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and it is one of the largest cities in Australia. In addition, it is also the most populous city in Australia and Oceania.

Day 1 & 2 – Sydney City

When you are in Sydney, it is a must to visit the Sydney Harbour area. Sydney Harbour features some of the famous attractions in Australia such as Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. After visiting the harbour area, take a ferry to Watsons Bay. When you are in the ferry, you could see the Sydney Opera House from the other side and admire the Sydney skyline from far.

While walking in the harbour area, remember to slow down your pace and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding architecture.

If you are travelling on a budget, take the public ferry to Watsons Bay instead of taking a boat tour/cruise.

For day 2, you can also try to do a Sky Walk in Sydney Tower Eye or surfing in Bondi Beach if you are adventurous. Otherwise, you can go to the Queen Victoria Market and look at the magnificent Royal Clock and Great Australian Clock.

Note that the Royal Clock will perform six English royalty scenes every hour. Do keep your eye on it when the clock is turning to a full hour.

Day 3 – South of Sydney

After exploring Sydney city, you can do a day trip to the South of Sydney. There are lots of attractions in the South of Sydney. For e.g. Stanwell Tops, Sea Cliff Bridge and Kiama Blowhole (Largest Blowhole in the world).

Kiama Blowhole is most active during high tide.

Day 4 – Katoomba

After exploring South of Sydney, how about the north part of Sydney? There are a lot of attractions in the North as well! There is a Featherdale Wildlife Park which is around 41 mins drive (45.6 km) away from Sydney. Note that Featherdale Wildlife Park is not your typical zoo. It has an outdoor bush setting which allows you to pat a Koala and hand feed a kangaroo.

Check out the educational presentations/activities in Featherdale Wildlife Park! (Refer to this link for more details)

After a visit to Featherdale Wildlife Park, you can continue your journey to Katoomba.  It takes around 1 hour 3 mins to drive (71.5km) to Katoomba. If you are adventurous, you can try the steepest incline railway in the world or the largest aerial cable car in the Southern Hemisphere (Refer to https://www.scenicworld.com.au/). Alternatively, you can take a walk in the blue mountain area and enjoy the following scenery:

Once you purchased the tickets for the incline railway, you can treat it as a roller coaster and take unlimited rides! 🙂

Day 5 – Jenolan Caves

If you are staying Katoomba for a few days, you might want to go to Jenolan Caves as well. The Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains are one of the world’s most amazing cave formations. Remember to purchase the cave tour tickets online before your trip as the tickets sold out quite fast.

Check out the spectacular blue lake near Jenolan Caves as well!

Ending Remarks

Overall, it is more than enough to spend 5 days to tour in Sydney unless you want to explore more caves in Jenolan area. Otherwise if you have more time, you can combine this trip with the Tasmania 10 Days Road Trip – Great Eastern Drive or the Melbourne 4 Days Road Trip – Great Ocean Road.
